Challenge: Winc’s most-successful and most-beloved brand, Summer Water, was ready to go big. The challenge: to deliver a creative platform that would scale across a new digital home and top-, middle-, and bottom-of-funnel marketing to increase revenue in both DTC + IRL. 

Insight: It’s obvious that Summer Water stands for summer, but we needed a deeper, more emotional hook. So we tapped into the warm and fuzzies that summer moments evoke, mixed in a little wtf, and got to business. 

Outcomes: On a shoestring budget, we created three spots to declare our position as the absolute owners of the summer season: an anthem to summon summer and two mini-narratives to highlight the whimsy and wild summer state of mind. In concert with our partner Pointer, we designed and developed a new home for the Summer Water family that was equal parts summer state of mind and e-comm conversion, utilizing Shopify 2.0. We were challenged to deliver eight unique and memorable brand moments in the span of a week on two coasts. In NYC, Summer Water was the official wine of Governor’s Ball, chartered a yacht on the Hudson River for two days for influencers and media, and threw a pink party at The Summer Club. As well as the brand’s largest LA party to-date at hot spot The Bungalow.

Challenge: B2B SaaS branding and marketing is bland. Between futurist shit-stock, don’t-piss-anyone-off gradients, banal copywriting, and boring narratives exists a gulf of sameness and barely any differentiation

Approach: ASAPP’s products are unequivocally the best performers in the market. In order to earn the trust and respect of potential customers, we knew we had to mirror that same level of excellence in our brand expression.

Outcomes: Outcomes delivered include the creation of an omnichannel design system, development of tone of voice guidelines, re-platforming of the dotcom, production of a livestream keynote, and crafting of bespoke video content.

Challenge: The dreamers at LQD Wifi wanted to bring communities together around the places, activities, and information that make every city unique. After partnering with Frog to ideate an enclosure and high-level brand for their innovative citizen engagement kiosk, LQD Wifi approached us to bring the experience to life.

Approach: We brought the digital kiosk to life, from strategy to design and code. VDK was designed to bring communities together so they can connect, discover, and celebrate the places, people, and stories that make each city special.

Outcomes: Building on the foundation of the experience principles Frog created, I authored an execution-focused strategic vision document that defined our user types, their journey, and interaction states.

More than customer journey maps and wireframes, we labored over the nuances of VDK’s personality: its tone of voice, use of color, and “pebble” hierarchy. Every debate and decision was meant to cement VDK as a connected and educated member of the community. All anchored in the customer experience principle that VDK is in its purest form utility wrapped in delight.

I led a creative team of five incredible brand, user interface, and user experience designers to translate an especially complex system of features and functions into a purposeful and bold experience. We balanced the needs of a 45-inch touch experience with that of a CMS meant to manage thousands of devices, all while adhering to ADA best practices.  

Partnering with the CTO, we scaled the engineering and creative team of eight to over thirty in six months. We customized agile processes and delivery team structure to deliver production-ready features every two weeks; putting a considerable amount of care into creating an authentic connection between our creatives and engineers to support our breakneck delivery.

The first VDK units in the Spring of 2018. With the arrival of Covid-19 in 2020, the idea of keeping communities connected took on greater significance. VDK kiosks were updated to provide information regarding CDC guidelines and local regulations. And so we’ve seen that the system is more than capable of keeping pace in dynamic, real-world environments—and helping people along the way.
