## The Solution

### 1. A stacked frequency ladder instead of a toggle

We replaced the subscribe toggle with four stacked offer cards, each matching a real consumption pattern:

The ladder does double duty: the top tier anchors value, and the frequency options themselves are a retention lever — a customer who can *choose* quarterly delivery doesn't churn because "tea is piling up."

Rather than discounting deeper, the gifts add perceived value at near-zero marginal cost to margin. The "Complete your routine" module shows each gift with its crossed-out retail price ($16 stevia, $48 capsules), so the $64 bundle value is concrete, not abstract. Gifts also introduce customers to adjacent SKUs — seeding future cross-sell.

Subscribers receive 25% off all orders **plus free gifts on orders 2–6** — shifting the incentive from "sign up" to "stay." Combined with self-serve skip, pause, swap, and frequency editing in the customer portal, cancellation stops being the only exit from a mismatched cadence.

## How We Got There: Iterative Testing

## The Challenge

Personalized products don't fit the standard Shopify flow. Every coloring book order required custom data — recipient name, occasion, a customer-uploaded photo, and personalization details — before it could go to illustration. The default product page couldn't collect it cleanly, and on the back end, every order meant manual work: digging data out of order notes, downloading photos, tracking production status in spreadsheets, and emailing files to the print partner.

### 1. A custom multi-step quiz embedded in the product page

Off-the-shelf quiz apps couldn't deliver the interface quality or flexibility the product demanded — so we built our own to create a better user experience. **How a Shopify 2.0 migration, subscription platform migration, merchant enablement, and a smarter free-gift offer lifted conversion for a large-catalog stationery brand**

Hubman and Chubgirl runs one of the bigger catalogs you'll find on an independent Shopify store — hundreds of SKUs across dozens of themed collections (sticker sheets, sets, washi tapes, box sets, planner kits), with new collections and relaunches shipping constantly.
